There are 2 different types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which antibodies attack the cells of the pancreas which produce insulin. This lab test is used to detect the presence of these insulin diabetes antibodies in the blood in order to establish which type of diabetes a person has.
