This mercury poisoning blood test measures the amount of mercury in the blood plasma in order to diagnose suspected mercury toxicity.
Mercury is a heavy metal element that occurs naturally in the environment in rocks, soil and coal. People who work with ceramics, glass, seafood, pesticides and mirror coating are susceptible to getting increased levels of mercury in the blood. This test is rarely used and is reserved to measure the amount of mercury in the blood plasma in order to diagnose suspected mercury toxicity.
