Pertussis, more commonly known as whooping cough, is a bacterial infection that is common in children as well as adults. It is spread via infected respiratory droplets. The infection used to be common, but since the introduction of the pertussis vaccine into the standard vaccination schedule, there has been a decrease in the number of infections since it provides lifetime immunity. The pertussis titer is a test that is used to quantitatively measure the amount of protective antibodies, namely IgG antibodies in the blood. This gives an indication of the level of protection and immunity against the bacteria.
This test is performed in following conditions such as:
• Running nose
• Mild cough
• Low-grade fever
